On the 1st of October in Saint Petersburg a unique pilot project to support women with HIV infection began its work. The project is being implemented by the EVA Association on Presidential Grant funding.
The social support office is a low threshold service of comprehensive individual support for HIV positive women in crisis situations. The office’s multi-professional team of peer counselors (people living with HIV  who have completed specialized training to be able to counsel on issues related to the disease), a social work specialist, a lawyer, and a psychologist. The office’s specialists inform, counsel, and support women in order to help them stabilize their emotional state and living conditions.
Each consultation can last up to 60 minutes. Support is provided in cases in which comprehensive services are needed all the way through representing the client in court (support can last up to one year). Additionally support groups for women with HIV and their family members are organized at the office.
The office’s monitoring and evaluation will be conducted taking into consideration specially developed methodology to measure the social effects based not only on the quantitative indicators (the number of services provided, the number of beneficiaries), but also on the qualitative indicators (positive personally-related and socially significant changes in the lives of women, improved material and economic status).
The EVA Association’s specialists’ experience enables the office to maximize sensitivity to the needs of clients (such as providing the opportunity to visit the office with children, donations of women and children’s clothing and toiletries.
The EVA Association is working together with municipal institutions and socially oriented nonprofits  to better inform women on existing support services and to allow for access to various specialists and represent the interests of women in these establishments. Special attention is given to issues of preventing violence against women and support in cases of violence as well as issues of dependency and co-dependent behaviors.
The project responds to the aims of two federal strategies: the State Strategy for the Prevention of HIV Infection in Russia for the period until 2020 and the 2017-2022 National Strategy of Action in the Interest of Women.
Successful implementation of the project will allow it to be expanded to other regions.
The office is located at: Saint Petersburg, Ulitsa Tsiolkovskogo 13/15, 3rd floor, office 35. You can set up an appointment on the EVA Association hotline: 8-921-913-03-04.
