NP E.V.A. representative Maria Godlevskaya took part in the Health in the LGBT Community forum that was held in Saint Petersburg in July.
From July 8th – 10th a forum entitled Health in the LGBT Community took place in Saint Petersburg. As it is described by the initiative group, Action, on the website, the forum provides a unique platform which, on the one hand, allows participants to learn many useful things, and perhaps, unexpected things about their health and the health of their friends, and on the other hand, provides the opportunity to participate in the creation of a strategy to promote issues of health relating to the LGBT community to the municipal level.
The following sections were part of the forum:
— issues of mental health among the LGBT community;
— issues of health among trans people;
— issues of health among disabled LGBT people;
— issues of health among LGBT living with HIV;
— issues of preventing and combatting the HIV epidemic among LGBT;
— issues of sexual health among LGBT.
At the forum, NP E.V.A. Project Coordinator Maria Godlevskaya presented a report on financing NGOs working with vulnerable groups from state sources: work in Saint Petersburg (Maria’s presentation in Russian).
We would like to note that in March of this year as part of the second forum of the Saint Petersburg LGBT movement, the decision was made to create an independent platform: The Committee of the LGBT Movement in Saint Petersburg.
The Committee on LGBT initiatives in Saint Petersburg is a consulting organ, which works as an independent platform for LGBT and HIV service organizations, initiative groups, and independent activists with the aim of consolidating the efforts and increasing the effectiveness of their work to improve the situation of the LGBT community in the city.
To reach these goals the committee is initiating:
— exchange of information, experience, and resources between various organizations, initiative groups, and independent activists;
— collaborative actions: campaigns, public demonstrations, events, etc.;
— dialogue between various organizations, groups, and independent activists about problems relevant to the community, work strategy and tactics, and the best practices to reach these goals.
